The interest in geothermal energy usage has grown significantly over the last few years, beyond the usual hydrothermal applications for district heating and power generation. Geothermal energy is always on, providing dependable baseload capability. Our aim is to build awareness and interest within the SEG and AAPG of the activities and progress made in the field of geothermal energy. Many of the exploration techniques used for hydrocarbons can be utilized for geothermal energy exploration and evaluation. This opens up opportunities for geophysicists, geologists, and other professionals to apply their knowledge and expertise in this exciting new domain. Geophysical techniques and measurements, such as EM, MT, gravimetry and seismic, coupled with multi-disciplinary interpretation and modeling offer significant opportunities to characterize and quantify geothermal resources, thereby providing access to enabling geothermal energy delivery to the world.
In this session, participants will learn about current methodologies, illustrated with case histories and some of the new developments in geothermal, enabling access to geothermal energy virtually anywhere.
