Conventional seismic data has been utilized in many ways, such as i) stack volume for structural interpretation, ii) gathers for reservoir characterization (DHI, property predictions, static model building), and iii) property models such as velocity for pore pressure prediction. In recent years, with access to high performance computing we are seeing significant rise in FWI applications from building high resolution velocity models, using FWI imaging to obtain reflectivity image of the subsurface and infer elastic properties of the Earth to better utilize the full value from seismic data and make informed business decisions. Is the vision of inferring direct subsurface information from seismic data as an inverse problem within reach, or do conventional tools and workflows still have important roles to play?

This workshop will cover workflows, methodology and examples to discuss the benefits and shortcoming in FWI for:
1. Model building and Imaging for structural interpretation, and
2. Reservoir characterization.
