State of the art geophysical sensors, sensor networks, methods, and evaluations for monitoring urban high-rise building health. Sensors, ground penetrating radar, resistivity, seismology, magnetics, and drone photogrammetric and thermal surveys will be discussed. The purpose of this course will be to provide IMAGE ‘23 participants with an understanding of the use of new technologies and the ability to follow and engage in discussions during forum and oral sessions about this topic during the conference. Smart Structures, which utilize these technologies in new construction, will be discussed while methods will concentrate on monitoring and evaluating existing structures. The collapse of the Champlain Towers condominiums of Florida in 2021, more recent emergency evacuations of Texas high-rises, new national safety standards, and general safety issues related to high-rise buildings will inform topics and discussion. Learn the basics and catch the wave of this new and transformative technology which will influence and shape our geoscience industry’s post-hydrocarbon future.
