Workshop

W-12: Quantum Computing in Geosciences: Is it time to get ready?

Friday, 29 August | 8:30 a.m.–12:00 p.m. | George R. Brown Convention Center

Over the years we have witnessed significant progress in seismic data acquisition, processing, and interpretation for subsurface characterization, keeping pace with the development of computers. Quantum computing (QC) is expected to play a key role in the future of high-performance computing, with the potential for significant impacts across many industries. Quantum computer hardware and algorithms for scientific data analysis are being developed at a rapid pace and therefore, it makes sense to revisit our classic algorithms for geophysical data analysis and examine what will be needed to take advantage of quantum computing!
