Workshop
W-14: Re-thinking Induced and Passive Seismic (IPS)
Friday, 29 August | 1:30 p.m.–5:00 p.m. | George R. Brown Convention Center
SEG has had a long and respected tradition covering Induced Seismicity as a topic in its journals, oral and poster session at the annual meeting, and post-convention and stand-alone workshops. In recent years, other passive seismic imaging and monitoring technologies, like noise-based seismic tomography and interferometry, are being more and more adopted by resource exploration practitioners, and those with interest in monitoring subsurface monitoring across several domains (reservoir monitoring, CO2 sequestration, enhanced geothermal systems, wastewater disposal, and aquifer management to name a few). The Passive Seismic Committee is looking at what the interests of IMAGE attendees are in broadening our coverage of passive seismic methods and applications. Hence, the Passive Seismic Committee is convening this post-convention workshop and invites all IMAGE attendees with interest in passive seismic topics to attend this workshop to make your voices heard and to discuss the range of topics the PS committee should be focusing its efforts.
This workshop is a companion to the Passive Seismic Raising special session scheduled for the 2025 IMAGE Technical Program – not a repeat of the special session, but a forum to discuss where we should be heading.
