This year Andy Pepper will celebrate 42 years as a geologist and petroleum systems analyst. Following the first half of his career at BP as an individual contributor, his later experience includes: at BP, leader of the Petroleum Systems Network; Chief Geologist and then Director of New Ventures at Hess; VP Geoscience and VP Unconventional Exploration at BHP. He founded This is Petroleum Systems LLC (’t!Ps’) in 2015 as a vehicle to collaborate and innovate in Petroleum Systems concepts, modeling and training. He holds a Bachelors Degree (First Class) in Geological Sciences at Leeds University, UK. Andy is most widely known for his work on source rock kinetics, expulsion and petroleum migration, especially in deepwater settings. Since forming t!Ps in 2015 Andy’s research has included techniques to improve logging and mapping of source rock expulsion potential; global source rock prediction (organic depositional Acmes); shale reservoir water saturation; and estimation of GOR from mud gas, among many other topics.
