Nathaniel Putzig
Dr. Nathaniel Putzig is a Senior Scientist with the Planetary Science Institute and an Adjunct Professor at the Colorado School of Mines (CSM). He holds BS, MA, and PhD degrees in geophysics from CSM, Rice University, and the University of Colorado. He worked for 14 years in terrestrial seismic exploration before transitioning to planetary science. Since 2001, he has been studying the surface and subsurface properties of Mars using data acquired from orbit with sounding radars, thermal spectrometers, cameras, and other instruments. He serves on NASA’s Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter mission as the US and Deputy Team Leader for the Italian-contributed Shallow Radar (SHARAD) sounder and as Co-PI of NASA’s Mars Subsurface Water Ice Mapping (SWIM) Team.
