Weichang Li leads the AI Technology group at Aramco’s Houston Research Center. He received dual M.S. (2002) in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science and Ocean Engineering, and Ph.D. (2005) in Electrical and Oceanographic Engineering from MIT. He was with ExxonMobil Corporate Strategic Research Lab from 2008 to 2014 where he led the machine learning group. He has published over 100 papers and 20 patents. His research focuses on machine learning and signal processing algorithms/models for geophysics, geosciences, and petroleum engineering applications. He has been the associate editor for Geophysics special section on Machine Learning, and recently IEEE Transaction on Neural Network and Learning Systems special issue on Deep Learning for Earth Sciences and Planetary Geosciences. He has co-organized the SEG machine learning post-convention workshop from 2018 to 2022.
