In this panel, we will discuss some geoscientific methods that can be applied to investigate the underlying layers of the earth for investigative purposes, such as locating and identifying buried objects. Forensic geosciences and in particular forensic geophysics is an important non-invasive method that can quickly explore large areas for crime scene investigations, archeology, and environmental research/investigations.
The panel will provide short introductory presentations on some practices/case studies and then discuss the current methodology, and experiences as forensic geoscientists examining legal cases from exploring for illegal burials whether human or contaminants, and from identifying source builders of explosive devices.
